8 REASONS TO VISIT SUBCARPATHIA IN SPRING

Each season showcases Subcarpathia in a different light. If you want to see the Subcarpathian spring in full bloom, we suggest how to spend time near Przemyśl, where to go for a weekend in the Bieszczady Mountains, or discover interesting places in the Roztocze area.

Subcarpathia is a space that amazes and astonishes. Here, in the vicinity of medieval hillforts, multi-ethnic villages, and cities, magnate residences, and palaces, early spring reminds us that it is also one of the most valuable natural regions in Poland.

BIESZCZADY AND THE SYMBOL OF SPRING

The Bieszczady snowdrops bloom in March and April, although this year is the last call to see them. This Carpathian variety uniquely has double-flowered stems. They usually appear in large clusters in wetlands and along stream banks. Tracking white floral carpets is a must while traversing the Bieszczady trails near Tarnawa Niżna, Muczne, Dwernik, and the Terebowiec valley.

A CHESSBOARD AT THE GATES OF PRZEMYŚL

Near Przemyśl, in the village of Krówniki, chess and nature enthusiasts will find something to capture their attention for longer. It is here, in the wide San Valley on the territory of the "Chessboard in Krówniki" nature reserve, on wet meadows at the end of April, you can admire entire fields of blooming checkerboard flowers. This unusual plant, whose petals resemble a board, comes in red-burgundy and white-cream colors.

BISON MAKE THE BIESZCZADY SPRING

Spring is the time when nature awakens to life, as does new life. Very often, already in May, in the Bison Show Farm in Muczne, baby bison are born. The life of the calves and adult individuals can be admired from specially prepared covered observation decks. Richly illustrated photo information boards educate about the animals and their habits. It is worth emphasizing that visiting the farm is free and possible every day, regardless of the weather. If you are still wondering where to go for the weekend to see the king of the forest for sure, the direction is already known to you.

DOES THE TAWNY OWL FANCY ONLY THE BIESZCZADY?

Spring is also an excellent opportunity to observe the courtship and rearing of offspring by wild birds. Watching the Ural owl feeding its chicks or the romantic courtships of other bird species will be an interesting experience. Did you know that between 1988-1997, a pair of Ural owls nested in the center of Przemyśl - in the Castle Park? In the Bieszczady, you will find tawny owls in old beech forests. You can also meet them on the Strzyżów Foothills in the "Herby" nature reserve.

MARSH MARIGOLDS IN THE BIESZCZADY

It's also worth visiting the Duszatyńskie Lakes in the Bieszczady, especially since marsh marigolds bloom there in spring. These two landslide lakes were formed in 1907 when spring rains and melts caused the western slope of Chryszczata to detach. Currently, the area of 2.2 hectares is protected - in 1957, the "Zwiezło" nature reserve was created here. From the larger to the smaller lake, whose water surface is located 20 meters lower, cascades the Olchowaty Stream. Near the lakes, species of plants rare in the Bieszczady grow: floating water-milfoil and branched horsetail, and in their waters, a previously unknown in Poland species of water beetle Neumania caliosa was discovered.

A UNIQUE ATTRACTION OF ROZTOCZE – A CHAPEL ON THE WATER

The colorful nature, almost always good weather, and a unique climate await you in the Subcarpathian Roztocze. During a spring bike ride on the Eastern Bike Trail Green Velo, pay attention to the rocky natural monument, "Temple of the Sun" near Nowiny Horynieckie, which was probably a pagan cult site, and the "Sołokija" nature reserve.

Be sure to visit the charming village of Nowiny Horynieckie in Horyniec-Zdrój because behind the village, in the shade of beech forests and springs with miraculous water, there is a wooden chapel on the water, now a forest sanctuary of St. Mary. During your journey through the Subcarpathian Roztocze, pay attention to the blooming rapeseed fields and capture the "chestnut heart" in Łówcza, where the branches of trees form the shape of a heart.

BALLOONS… NOT ONLY WITH HELIUM

Just as colorful as spring, so is the sky above Krosno in May, shimmering with a thousand colors. For several days, multicolored balloons dominate the city and neighboring localities, creating unforgettable views and emotions. The event, taking place at the beginning of May, is one of the largest in Subcarpathia. Since 2000, it has attracted an increasing number of tourists and a significant number of competitors from the country and abroad. Additionally, there are air shows, parachute displays, and music concerts.
