Schronisko Kremenaros – the spirit of the old Bieszczady
Nestled in the heart of the Bieszczady, Kremenaros is a mountain hut with soul, located at 1300 metres above sea level on the southern slope of Mount Kremenaros. The most popular trails to reach it start in Ustrzyki Górne (yellow trail) and Wołosate (blue trail). Known since the 1970s as the “Pulpit” bar, today it serves as a shelter, canteen and café, with a strong regional vibe and an unforgettable atmosphere. It’s an ideal base for hikers and anyone looking to unwind far from the noise – surrounded by mountains and nostalgia for a world that once was. Kremenaros isn’t just a place to stay – it’s an experience.
How to Reach the Shelter
1.From Ustrzyki Górne (Yellow Hiking Trail)
This is the most popular and frequently chosen route. The trail begins in the centre of the village, near the main road and tourist car park. It leads through forests and scenic meadows, gradually ascending in elevation. Along the way, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Terebowiec Valley and the Bieszczady meadows (połoniny).
Walking time: approx. 2.5–3 hours.
2. From Wołosate (Blue Hiking Trail)
An alternative route that’s more physically demanding. It starts at the car park in Wołosate – the southernmost village in Poland. The trail initially winds through forest paths, then opens up to expansive views of Tarnica and Halicz.
Walking time: approx. 3.5–4 hours.
Bacówka Pod Honem – a mountain haven just above Cisna
If you dream of waking up in the mountains to the sound of rustling trees and a red trail right outside your door – Bacówka PTTK "Pod Honem" is made for you. Tucked away in a forest clearing at 663 metres above sea level, just a 15-minute walk from Cisna, it offers peace, beautiful views, and a true hiker’s spirit.
Built in 1986 for wanderers, today it charms with its wooden architecture and homely vibe. Expect rooms, a communal dining area, campfires under the stars, and the chance to sleep in a tent. Warm breakfasts and dinners await – perfect after a day on the trails.
Bacówka Pod Honem is a great starting point for trips to the Łopiennik Massif, the Chryszczata Range, or the border trails deeper into the Bieszczady. And in the evening? Time for tea in the hut’s common room and stories shared the old way – around a fire, in good company.

Schronisko w Jaworcu – a forgotten mountain hut with soul
Hidden among beech forests and far from the beaten paths, the hut in Jaworzec is a true gem of the Bieszczady. Located at 605 metres above sea level, on the site of a former village emptied after the war, it offers not only rest but a journey through time. Built in 1976, this bacówka fell into obscurity for years, but now – lovingly restored – it’s full of life again and draws those in search of something real.
Perfect for those seeking peace, mountain atmosphere, and history written into the landscape – in old orchards, ruined churches, and forgotten cemeteries. Jaworzec is more than just a hut – it's a story worth hearing. It’s a place for those who want a true break – for those seeking peace, truth, and magic – in the shadow of the mountains, far from the noise. You don’t just stay here – you come home to yourself.
Koliba – a soulful shelter on the Przysłup Caryński Pass
In the very heart of the Bieszczady, between Połonina Caryńska and Magura Stuposiańska, at 777 metres above sea level, lies Koliba – a hut unlike any other. Surrounded by forest and overlooking the valley of the now-vanished village of Caryńskie, it draws people in not just with its location but with its unique energy.
In Koliba, you’ll find everything you need for a mountain adventure: cosy rooms, access to hot water, the option to sleep in a tent or – for the tougher ones – on the floor. Evenings are spent by the fireplace in the communal room, where conversations flow as naturally as the nearby mountain streams.
It’s a great base for nearby trails, but also a place to slow down and truly feel the Bieszczady as they once were. Schronisko Koliba is more than a roof over your head – it’s hospitality, history, and the authentic Bieszczady spirit.

Chata Socjologa – between earth and sky
If you dream of really disconnecting from the world, of silence broken only by the crackle of firewood in the hearth and nights under a star-filled sky – Chata Socjologa is waiting for you. Perched on the peak of Otryt (896 metres above sea level), with views over the Połonina Wetlińska and Caryńska meadows, it offers not just a bed but total immersion in the raw, untamed Bieszczady.
No electricity, no running water, no shops – but there’s warmth in the community, tea from a wood-fired kitchen, and stories told by the firelight. Wooden bunks, a sleeping bag, torch, and solid boots – that’s all you need to live an adventure the old way. Or maybe – just the way it should be?
Chata Socjologa is for those who want to be – with others, with nature, and with themselves. Here, technology stays in the valley, and you step into a world that still has time. For many, it’s not just a place to stay – it’s an experience that stays with you for a lifetime.
Remember the mountain hut etiquette in the Bieszczady!
While wandering the wild trails and staying in the heart of the mountains, remember – huts are more than just a roof over your head. They’re shared spaces, full of peace, hospitality and mutual respect.
- Respect the quiet. Evenings and nights in the mountains have their own calm rhythm. Honour it – give yourself and others a proper rest after the day’s efforts.
- Use water wisely. Be mindful, especially when showering – so there’s enough for everyone.
- Leave no mess behind. Whether it’s your room, the kitchen or the bathroom – leave it how you’d like to find it. Cleanliness shows care for others and respect for the place.
- Connect with others. Huts are often spaces for chats over tea or a fire. Don’t shy away from a smile or a friendly word to a stranger – but remember, every connection needs sensitivity and care.
If you dream of moments away from the noise, a mug of tea in hand, eyes fixed on the Połoniny stretching to the horizon – the Bieszczady and their mountain huts are waiting for you
