The architectural gems are at your fingertips in the San and Vistula Valleys. One of them is the palaceand park complex in Krasiczyn, captivating with its history and architecture
The castle and park complex in Krasiczyn is a place full of curiosities. Starting with the park - a tree grows here that has the power to make dreams come true - the ginkgo tree. Walk around the tree three times and your dream will come true. A platform has been built around the trunk of the ginkgo tree to prevent damage to its roots, as plenty of visitors are willing to wander around the tree. There is another interesting dendrological theme in the local park. Stone plaques with names and dates can be found under some of the trees. Women's names can be found under linden trees (associated with fertility and health), men's names - under oak trees (symbolizing strength and power). These trees commemorated the birth of the children of the Sapieha family - some of the last owners of the complex.
Unique decorations
After visiting the park, it's time to visit the castle itself. Even at the first encounter with the castle walls, the visitors can admire the unique sgraffito decorations that adorn both the interior and exterior walls. In total, they cover 7,000 square meters, thus being one of the largest in Europe! This decoration technique was already known in antiquity, and gained its greatest popularity in the Renaissance. It consists in applying two layers of plaster that differ in color, and then scraping off the top layer, which should form a planned pattern. In Krasiczyn we can admire two-color sgraffito, which breaks the heavy character of the walls and gives them a light look.
The architecture of the castle itself mainly consists of 4 distinctive towers: Divine (with castle chapel), Papal, Royal and Noble. Over the centuries, the castle was inhabited by well-known and influential aristocratic and magnate families, i.e.: Krasicki, Modrzewski, Tarłów, Mniszech-Potocki and Sapieha families.
Presently, the castle houses e.g. a 3-star hotel, where you can feel like a real nobleman or noblewoman. Detailed information on the castle hotel's current offer and tour hours is available on the website:
