IN THE WORLD OF LASOWIAK AND RZESZOWIAK PEOPLE

"The forest is a father to us, and us, his children, follow him." These are the words of a well-known saying of the Lasowiaks emphasizing their relationship with the Sandomierz Forest inhabited by them.

In the open-air museum in Kolbuszowa, a charming place wrapped in dense greenery of the forests of the former forest, we will get to know their culture and everyday life. Wandering between the wooden farmsteads of Lasowiaks and Rzeszowiaks you will dive into the world that no longer exists, and get to know the peasant soul.

So let's discover the former world of the Lasowiak and Rzeszowiak people!

Visiting the ethnographic park covering 30 hectares, we reach unique objects that cannot be found in any other open-air museum in Poland, because they are closely related to the material culture of the Lasowiaks. We visit the former forester's lodge, the undergrowth drying plant and the seed shelling plant. We can take a look here at how the Lasowiaks used the gifts of nature coming from the forest.

We walk through the park and notice the unique layout of the former village. We admire wooden pens, charming home gardens, orchards and apiaries and a large pond with a mill. We are impressed by every single residential interior, meticulously equipped with accessories and furniture corresponding to the era. We also visit the church in Rzochów (1843), where almost all the equipment is original. Interestingly, in the wooden temple there are paintings on canvases covering the presbytery, imitating stone walls! We see depictions of stone blocks, columns, as well as niches with images of saints. We also pass by the manor granary from Bidziny dating back to 1784, where we can admire the "ox eyes" – small windows in the roof, with a characteristic appearance.

We also reach the oldest building in the open-air museum – the baroque manor house from Brzeziny (1753). We learn that it is the only preserved wooden building of this type in south-eastern Poland. We are greeted by a charming glass veranda, leading to the world of the nobility. We admire the representative part of the manor with a living room, dining room and master's room, with a window where the former owner could observe all his estates.

The charm of the Kolbuszowa open-air museum is noticed not only by tourists, but also by artists, including Wojciech Smarzowski, who shot scenes for the award-winning film "Volhynia" in the open-air museum in 2015. And lately, breaking popularity records, is the satirical series "1670," filmed in the Museum of Satire in Kolbuszowa. You can visit the open-air museum with a guide or walk in the company of an audio guide all year round. From April to October, you can take advantage of outdoor events devoted to various aspects of folk culture – cuisine, music, crafts, handicrafts, rituals or farm work.
