Why is it worth visiting the Open-air Museum of Folk Culture in Kolbuszowa?

In the open-air museum of the Museum of Folk Culture in Kolbuszowa, you can travel in time and get to know the world that no longer exists, learn about the history of people and understand the soul of a peasant.

The open-air museum covers almost 30 hectares, with over 100 objects of small and large wooden architecture. While strolling around the open-air museum, you will have the opportunity to see buildings of everyday use: cottages, barns, livestock buildings, granaries, rood, manege hall, buildings of rural industries: windmills, water mill, oil mills, forges, pottery rooms, and public utility facilities: school, fire station , an inn, as well as the church of St. Mark the Evangelist.

The most valuable objects include the manor from Brzeziny dating back to 1753, the church from Rzochów built in 1843, the rectory from Ostrów Tuszowskich from 1904, the Szylar family homestead from Markowa from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as a forestry facility with a unique seed extraction facility from Dąbrówki (circa 1860) and a gamekeeper's lodge from Zerwanka built in 1830, which feature carefully arranged interiors. The exhibition is enriched by displays on milling in windmills and a watermill, as well as firefighting in a fire station complemented by a tower for drying hoses.

The majority of these architectural gems have been arranged with the use of equipment appropriate for a relevant time and place. It makes a visit at the open-air museum an opportunity to learn the stories about everyday household activities and the lives of their inhabitants. All buildings are located in the natural landscape of home gardens, bee-gardens, orchards, farmlands, pastures, ponds and meadows. The surroundings are dominated by the riverside greenery and forest.

The biggest events are the Presentations of Folk Creativity of the Lasowiaks and Rzeszowiaks (the first Sunday of June) and "The Horse, as it is..." (the first Sunday of August). The Presentations of Folk Creativity of the Lasowiaks and Rzeszowiaks is an annual outdoor event organized since 1997. Its main purpose is to showcase disappearing crafts and authentic folk creativity. During this event, there is also a unique fair featuring artistic handicrafts and regional dishes. "The Horse, as it is..." is a special event dedicated to the majestic animals that are horses. Together with the Equestrian Farm "Mustang from Dzikowiec," the Museum of Folk Culture in Kolbuszowa jointly organizes this event, offering plenty of attractions such as horse shows, equestrian competitions, a horse parade, museum tours, as well as a handicraft fair and regional dishes.
