how to get there

Rozwadów (Stalowa Wola) is a place, where Alfons Karpiński was born and spent first years of his life. The Alfons Karpiński Picture Gallery is situated in the antique building. This magnificent structure of the former court was built in 1905 by initiative of the Austrian authorities and is a relict of the representative urban building of the old-time in Rozwadow town.

The attic floor of the house was chosen for location of the Gallery. It has been separated onto two places: an exhibition room of Karpiński and artistic studio. A visitor can see different parts of the artist's artwork – youthful sketches, Krakovian pictures, typical for Młoda Polska period, melancholic views of Paris, portraits of women, salon and still life paintings and those ones connected with the war time – in separated space of the Gallery. Except the traditional exposition you can see chosen works of the painter and listen to reminisces of the artist in a corner of the attic. There is also a space arranged as an interior of the artist's workroom with the original easel and all necessary tools in the Gallery. Guests can also to paint their own "pictures" using interactive multimedia easel or to know all phases of the painter working there.

There is also a special space in the studio designed onto the cinema, where a guest can watch short movies (animations) telling about painter's creation. The Gallery offers for visitors a rich cultural programme (exhibitions, workshops, lessons, conferences, concerts, films, artistic events etc.). The “Karpiński” School of Painting and Drawing has started within the framework of the Gallery, where not only young people can learn the real art, supported by professional teachers of the fine arts. On the first floor there is a place for exhibitions and schooling, which is organized as the Centre of Education for Children.
