This picturesque area, with two major tourist attractions Lake Solina and Lake Myczkowce – has unique geomorphological structure, natural plant communities, wealth of flora and fauna as well as numerous landmarks of cultural heritage. Nearly 70% of the area is covered with forest complexes. The landmarks of natural heritage include the following reserves: Olsza kosa in Stężnica near Baligród (1.79 ha); three landscape reserves along Lake Myczkowce: Kamieniołom na Kozińcu in Bóbrka (28.68 ha), Nad Jeziorem Myczkowieckim (164.17 ha) in the massif of Berdo, Przełom Sanu pod Grodziskiem (100.24 ha) in Zwierzyń; forest reserve called Grąd w Średniej Wsi (58.19 ha) and the only fauna reserve in the Podkarpackie region, Bóbr w Uhercach (27.12 ha) – a refuge for the endangered species of the European beaver; additionally one can encounter here numerous species of birds attracted by water reservoirs on the river San.

 

Within the area you can admire magnificent monuments of nature, e.g. impressive rock formations along the San, in Posada Leska, in Glinne, in Orelec, along River Hoczewka, waterfall on river Olszanka near Uherce Mineralne, waterfall on stream Stężniczka near Baligród, as well as monumental trees and fragments of magnificent 18th century manorial parks and gardens in numerous villages located in the Bieszczady.
