Prusie is a small village located right on the border with Ukraine. Quietness and peace are certainly the strengths of this place. However, the main distinguishing feature is the Tserkva of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the most recognizable landmark in the area
RESIDENTS OF PRUSIE IN ROZTOCZE
The current number of people living in this small border village does not exceed 100. It was different in the past. Before the war, there were many more. The current state of affairs was primarily influenced by the resettlements of 1947. At that time, the Ukrainian population living here was forced to leave their homes. It should be noted that they constituted the majority of the local community at that time. A remembrance of these residents is today the Tserkva of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, a tourist attraction of Roztocze.
SACRED ARCHITECTURE IN PRUSIE
Tserkva in Prusie, the most valuable monument of the village, dates back to 1887. It was built with the efforts of the parish priest from Werchrata and the local population. Initially, it served the Greek Catholics, but later it was taken over by the Roman Catholic Church. It is currently a filial church of the parish in Werchrata. Next to the church stands a wooden bell tower, which was built in the same period.
These areas were not spared wars and conflicts. However, their effects were not as tragic as for the other tourist attractions of Roztocze. Tserkva in Prusie has largely retained its original, rich equipment. The iconostasis deserves special attention. Although it was partially dismantled, its missing icons simply adorn the side walls of the church. Inside, the polychromies have also been preserved.
Opposite the church is a cemetery. It has several dozen historic tombstones, among them the famous Brusno crosses.
TOURIST ATTRACTION OF ROZTOCZE AT THE EDGE OF POLAND
The tserkva is located on the main road leading through the village. Just turn off road DW 867 following the signs to the village of Prusie. After about 300 meters, you are in front of this attraction of Roztocze. Interestingly, you have to leave the village by the same road. This is because the road through Prusie has no passage. It runs through the village and then ends in front of the tracks. Beyond that is the state border and the border zone.
