For centuries, this was a place of artistic excellence where a local glassworks created incredible crystal objects that adorned wealthy manors. Today, remnants of it are challenging to find, yet the settlement proudly remains as Huta Kryształowa.  Anyone looking for interesting places in Roztocze region should visit this place

Huta Kryształowa

how to get there

The beginnings of Huta Kryształowa

One of the hamlets of the village of Sieniawka (interestingly, the only one still existing to this day) was Huta Kryształowa. It was here in the 18th century that Jerzy August Mniszek or Hetman Sieniawski (sources are not clear) decided to establish a glassworks, drawing inspiration from renowned manufactories in Potsdam and Dresden. He hired exceptional craftsmen from abroad to create true masterpieces of glass craftsmanship. Extraordinary works such as elegant tableware and dazzling chandeliers were produced here. However, with the change of successive owners, the rank of the produced items declined, and the glassworks itself was decided to be relocated near Basznia. This marked the end of the glassmaking history in this place.

The monuments of Huta Kryształowa after the former owners

Before World War II, these lands belonged to the well-known Andruszewski family in the region. It was they who built a manor here, surrounded by a charming park. Unfortunately, the monument did not survive to this day, only neglected ruins remain. However, the historic lime tree avenue, stretching for about 2 km, has been preserved. In 2015, the Lubaczów Forestry decided to revive this landscape by planting new lime trees, which serve as an extension of the historical avenue. It is worth stopping at its end. From there, you can see the picturesque village of Wróblaczyn, located in Ukraine, and using binoculars, spot the local Orthodox church.

Among the remnants of Huta Kryształowa, another remarkable monument has been preserved, serving as an important souvenir from the past - a distillery. This unassuming object, built in the 20th century, once played a significant role but over the years lost its original purpose. Interestingly, the distillery stands exactly where the famous glassworks used to operate.

Right next to it, you can turn onto the lime tree avenue and reach the viewpoint. Across from it, you can see the remnants of the distillery. Huta Kryształowa can be reached, for example, from Horyniec-Zdrój. The cycling route in this part of Roztocze will lead past the Orthodox Church in Radruż, located on the Wooden Architecture Route.
