Driving along the national road No. 94 towards Łańcut, right when you leave Rzeszów, you can turn to Malawa, from where you will reach Magdalenka Hill (394 m)

Magdalenka - viewing point

how to get there

This is the first hill of the Dynów Foothills, crowned with a modern observation tower from whichyou can see Rzeszów, planes travelling to the airport in Jasionka, Łańcut, and also the Tatra Mountains under favorable conditions. The historic church of St. Mary Magdalene, which is best photographed from the platform, is also located nearby.

Brick building of the small St. Mary Magdalene church was built here in 18th c according to the designs by Tylman of Gameren. It was founded by prince Jerzy Ignacy Lubomirski, supposedly as an act of penitence for manslaughter. The legend has it that during one of the many balls at the Rzeszów’s Castle, the prince noticing a rooster carried to the market, made a bet that he will hit the rooster’s head. An unfortunate twist of fate happened, although he was an excellent shooter instead of the bird, he shot the bird’s owner.  The God-fearing prince paid the compensation to the man’s family and repent for the rest of his life. The very first wooden church was dismantled and transported to Krasne, after burning down the Krasne’s church by Tatars of Kantymir Murza who was nicknamed Bloody Sword and notorious for leading recurring invasions of Poland in 17th c.

There is also the Colonel Leopold Lis-Kula red tourist and historical trail, the Via Regia pilgrimage route and the Green Velo bicycle route passing through Magdalenka. A playground for children has also been constructed there.
