how to get there

This interesting rock formation is located near the road leading to the Bieszczady Mountains.  However, due to the forest that currently grows over it, it is no longer as clearly visible as before. It is hidden among the trees, which makes this place even more mysterious.

But where the Lesko Stone come from in this place and what is its history?  These are questions that more than one tourist will surely ask. However, there are several versions of this story.  Therefore, we can choose the one most credible to us.

There used to be a quarry at the foot of this rock formation. And the object itself served as a source of building material.  The stone mined here was used in the construction of the castle in nearby Lesko, but also local churches.

Other theories are related to local legends.  One of them states that the devil, wanting to destroy Christian traditions in this area, tried to demolish the local church.  To do so, he carried a stone, which he dropped when he got scared by the rooster's crowing. Since then, the stone was left in this place until the present day.  Meanwhile, according to another story, the Leski Stone is said to be a young girl who was turned into a boulder. The woman went to fetch water for her sick mother, and when she could not wait for her daughter, she cursed her.

In the past, this unique rock formation was also called the Kmitów Bastion, after the founder of Lesko.  Its unique values were appreciated very early and it became one of the first natural monuments.

The easiest way to get to the Lesko Stone is to leave your car in a small parking lot.  It is located near national road No. 84, between Lesko and the village of Glinne.  From there, it's just a few minutes' walk along the forest road below the Lesko Stone. Fans of longer hikes can opt for an approximately one hour walk from the center of Lesko.  The green trail from Zagórz runs that way, which will lead the tourist to this rock formation and further to the top of Czulnia.
